Look Who's Talking. And Talking. And Talking

Ruby is now a whopping 13 months old! And although she seems in no hurry to walk,((Although today at the beach she made great strides!), she is desperately trying to communicate. And by communicate, I mean talk non stop about everything. All the time.

She uses a handful of signs but prefers to tough out trying to boss us around. Ooops, I mean, have lively discussions with us.

Life is so interesting to her and saying "Wa zat?" 24/7 is her way of getting the info she feels she needs and is entitled to.

She can now refer to several body parts on command and will stop moving briefly to enjoy the occasional 2 second hug/snuggle. She cruises, climbs, "reads" and "organizes". She's peed in the potty a couple of times and once I caught a poo!

And did I mention she talks?

A lot.

I wonder where she gets that from....

The sound of sweet baby words is wonderful. I love it. I only get a little weary after a full day of constant chatter if it happens to be 37 degrees out (30 in the house) and what I've heard on a constant and repeating loop is:

"Car, car, car, pool, car, car, bath, car, pool, car, pool, BABY, car, pool, pool, bath, cold, POOL!"

Also, there are a few words that can set her off on an emotional rampage and occasionally need to be spelled out. Not surprisingly, bath and pool are on this list... along with blanket and milk.

So, for archive's sake. At 13 months, here are some of our favourite words around here:

Car
Pool
Bath
Cold
Baby
Maba -used for Mabel and all other dogs. She's dropped the word dog altogether
Poo
Back Pack - to indicate the Ergo carrier
Wa zat? ziz? zoz? -What is that? This? Those?
Two- although she has no concept of this means
Shoes
Mama
Dada
Yia Yia
Na na
Pap - is my Dad
BoBo -another dog
Hi/Hey/Bye
Cracker
Bear
Ball
Toy

Here are some words she tries that probably only we can understand:

St- Stanley
Chugh- Cheese
Bubebe- Blue Berries
cerl- Cereal
ook- Book
bebugh bugh- Belly Button
Chero- Cherioos

Words she tries to/wishes she could say:

Painting
Curtain
Truck
sock
Blanket - there are a few variations on this word but so far she hasn't settled on a favourite.
Grandad- usually comes out as dada
Signs:

more
all done
bath
book - she's is a little crazy with this one.
fan
where is?
milk
thank you -very rare
baby

And, my favourite... which we just confirmed today as an actual word, used in proper context is: COOL!

How awesome is that!

We didn't try and teach her that one but I guess we are just keen and dorky enough that she's heard it a billion times.

She hasn't dropped the F- Bomb yet. But if she can pick up a word like "cool" around here, the Big F isn't far behind...

Shit.

Genius! That's very advanced for 13 months.

ps - Megan is jealous of Ruby's abundant hair.

Ok, maybe that's just me.

wow! She is doing very well in the realm of expressive and vocabulary skills (dev psych speak).

She's pretty darn cute, too!

Clearly a genius! I am slightly envious of the mini communication interest. My 14 month old shows no sign of being ready to break out many real words yet

No joke, the Mr and I were having some conversation about something that involved the phrase "giant strap-on". Guess who picked THAT PHRASE out for immediate repetition??

Crap.

Ruby is SOOOOO gorgeous! :)
